Our work with…
What if every employee knew how to be an active ally?
Canary Wharf is Britain’s biggest urban regeneration project. The developer, owner and manager of the 128-acre building estate wants it to be the most inclusive place to work in the country, and knows that this begins with its own people. To help the company achieve its goal, Today Do This created a set of resources on how to be an ally at work, accessible to everyone in the business.
We started by leading a co-creation workshop with employee resource groups representing gender balance, ethnicity and equality, disability, social mobility and LGBTQ+. Together, we defined what allyship means and looks like within the context of their corporate culture. We used the outputs from this workshop—and our proven ability to condense complex topics into simple, practical suggestions for action—to develop a short but comprehensive guide to being an ally. The guide uses clear language and everyday examples, and provides links to a variety of helpful resources by external experts. We also created a set of 26 easy ways to be an ally at work, to be used in internal communications throughout the year.
The outcome
The guide was launched on International Allyship Day, reaching employees of all stripes from building management services to design and development, arts and events to IT, construction to car parks.
Through its employee newsletter and other internal channels, the company maintains a steady rhythm of reminders on all the ways employees can use their voice, awareness or position to support fairness and inclusion. This is building a culture of allyship that extends well beyond one-off annual events like Pride and International Women’s Day.
"Thanks for all your help on the project. It was a pleasure working with you both."
